A World Health Organization official says he is cautiously optimistic about the containment of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ninety percent of people at risk in the city of Mbandaka have been vaccinated. The official said more than 400 potential Ebola contacts had been vaccinated. He also said he hoped to get government approval within days to use five experimental drugs in a clinical trial which could lay the groundwork for more rapid treatment in future outbreaks. Congo’s Health Ministry says there have been 25 deaths and 54 cases of Ebola in the outbreak, with 35 confirmed. There have been no deaths or new confirmed cases in the past two days.
