A grim milestone has been set in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ebola outbreak, which began August 1. As of Tuesday, January 1, the total number of probable patients is 602, with 366 deaths. According to CNN, an additional 29 people who doctors suspect may have the virus are under investigation. The Ministry of Health reported that 207 people have recovered from the life-threatening illness. Ebola, which causes fever, severe headache and in some cases hemorrhaging, usually kills about half of those infected. But this latest outbreak in the DRC currently has a fatality rate of about 60%.
