United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has visited Liberia as part of 2-day tour of Ebola Outbreak affected countries including neighboring Sierra Leone and Guinea. The Secretary General has praised the progress made in Liberia, citing improved contact tracing, safer burial practices, and communities that are mobilizing to protect themselves. However, he cautioned against complacency noting the need for continued vigilance, more robust contact tracing, and greater preparedness at district levels.

The Secretary-General said that the “promising results Liberia has experienced must be shared regionally to avoid the risk of re-transmission.”

During his visit, the Secretary-General addressed government officials, dignitaries and the media at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
